Simon Hughes and Chris Maines surveyed rail users at Orpington Station this morning
Hundreds of Orpington commuters were greeted at Orpington station this morning by Simon Hughes, the Liberal Democrat candidate for London Mayor. Mr Hughes was in town to carry out a huge survey of rail users which will assist him in drawing up his Mayoral manifesto.
Mr Hughes was joined by local Liberal Democrat leader Chris Maines and a team of LibDem members.
Commenting, Mr Hughes said 'Orpington is one of the capital's busiest commuter stations, and I wanted to visit it personally so I could chat to rail users about their experiences of our rail system'
'I don't plan to be a 'zone one' Mayor like the present Mayor of London, so listening to the opinions of local rail users in parts of outer London like Orpington is an important part of my campaign'
Local LibDem leader Chris Maines said 'I'm delighted to welcome Simon to Orpington. We got a great reception from local rail users, and I'm looking forward to reading all the surveys that are returned'
