In a meeting organised by the bid team for the Olympics to come to London in 2012 with senior political figures, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly candidate Duncan Borrowman asked the bid Chair, Barbara Cassani, for assurances that Crystal Palace will have a role in the games. Duncan Borrowman said: "Simon Hughes and I spoke to Barbara Cassani about the importance to Crystal Palace of the games. I was pleased to hear her say that she was certain that Crystal Palace will have an important role to play - which can only be good for the local economy, local sport and the future of Crystal Palace."
Duncan Borrowman also discussed the plans with former Olympic athletes Menzies Campbell MP, David Hemery and Lord Sebastian Coe
