New Lib Dem team to challenge Tories

May 15, 2005 9:40 PM

Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride has announced the party's spokespeople on Bromley Council, saying that he is looking forward to his strong team taking on the Tories over local issues.

Issues such as the local environment, social services, youth services and safety of local residents will dominate political debate in the next year and Cllr McBride has said his team will highlight Conservative failures locally as well as providing a strong alternative.

"We have a strong team locally and I am determined that issues that matter to local residents will be highlighted and acted upon. For instance, we have separate spokespeople for Community Safety and Leisure as we do not want to dilute either as the Tories have done," said Cllr McBride.

Spokespeople:

Leader/Strategy: Cllr David McBride

Deputy Leader/Finance: Cllr Reg Adams

Children and Young People: Cllr Denise Payton

Community Safety: Cllr Brenda Thompson

Environment: Cllr Grace Goodlad

Leisure: Cllr Bob Shekyls

Local Economy: Cllr Martin Curry

Social Care, Health and Housing: Cllr Geoff Gostt
