Liberal Democrats across Bromley are to deliver thousands of cards through local doors. They ask for residents' help in tackling the huge rise in problems with defective roads and pavements, overhanging trees, graffiti and other environmental problems across the borough. The problems have been caused by the Conservative controlled council failing to spend adequate funds from Council Tax to deal with major environmental issues - for example a £½ million shortfall in tree pruning budgets.
Cllr David McBride, Lib Dem Leader LB Bromley and Cllr Grace Goodlad Lib Dem Environment Spokesperson LB Bromley launch environment report card.
Bromley Lib Dem Leader Cllr David McBride said: "We want to make it easier for local residents to inform us of problems, so we can push the Tory Council to deal with them, the Liberal Democrats think it is time we really had a clean and green borough. It is time to clean up Bromley Borough, local residents deserve the best."
Cllr Grace Goodlad, Lib Dem Environment Spokesperson, added: "Damaged roads and pavements are being repaired more slowly than they were last year; One in five roads need to be looked at for structural repairs; Graffiti is up by a third - and is taking longer to remove.
"Many local residents are asking me if the Council can't even empty the bins properly, look after the streets and keep trees pruned and grass cut, then what are they paying their Council Tax for?

"It is sheer Tory Financial Incompetence that has resulted in this appalling neglect of the most basic jobs that the Council should be doing"
