Lib Dem Councillor Martin Curry has called for more local training places to be made available for the construction industry.
Martin and two fellow councillors on the Council's Construction Training Working Group, have just recommended to Bromley Council, that more training places are made available to meet demand. "Currently, Bromley Adult Education College has twice as many applications as places on basic brick laying courses" says Martin , and these courses can lead on to further courses at Bromley College of F&HE.
Martin and his colleagues are seeking to establish a Trust, to support trainees in Bromley, working in partnership with the Colleges and Construction firms, gaining extra funding from business developing sites in the Borough, to assist in the training of local people for jobs in the sector.
"We know there is an untapped demand for places to train in construction locally, and we are seeking to ensure that more places are made available." he concludes.
