Crime Action NOW!

June 2, 2006 12:00 AM

Ben Abbotts outside Bromley Police StationLocal residents are alarmed at the rise in crime in Bromley. Official figures show crime increased locally while it fell across London.

The Liberal Democrats are proposing tough new measures to crack down on crime, locally and nationally.

Last week the Lib Dem Leader Menzies Campbell called for an end to automatic early release for serious offenders. He said "Those who should be in jail should stay in jail". He also called for much improved support for the victims of crime.

Crime Survey Launched

Bromley Liberal Democrat councillor Ben Abbotts is conducting a major crime survey across our area. He is asking thousands of local residents for their views on tackling crime and yobbish behaviour.

"Local residents tell me they are fed up with the lack of action from the Labour Government and the Conservative Council. From anti social behaviour by youths in shopping parades to the rise in serious violent crime - local residents want action."

Tory Council Fails on Crime

Bromley Conservatives are failing local residents on crime. They recently voted against Liberal Democrat proposals to increase the number of mobile CCTV cameras in the Borough, and against the introduction of council Street Wardens to work with police officers and PCSOs.

Ben Abbotts said: "If elected as Bromley & Chislehurst's new MP I will make tackling crime my top priority."
