Lib Dem says: "Three jobs Bob" should quit the London Assembly.

July 5, 2006 9:49 AM
Bob Neill

Bob Neill can't do the full time job of being Bromley & Chislehurst's MP and the full time job of London Assembly member for 500,000 people across Bromley and Bexley boroughs.

Following the election of Bexley & Bromley London Assembly member Bob Neill as the Member of Parliament for Bromley & Chislehurst, Liberal Democrat Duncan Borrowman, who was runner up to Mr Neill in the 2004 London Assembly elections, has called on "Three jobs Bob" to resign his London Assembly seat.

Mr Borrowman said: "The Bromley & Chislehurst by-election was nearly the biggest by-election upset ever with the Lib Dems narrowly missing victory in the former rock solid Conservative seat. The Conservative majority was slashed from 13,342 to a wafer thin 633.

"Local residents showed they did not want a part time MP - with two other jobs as the London Assembly member for the two boroughs, and a job as a barrister. Now residents of Old Bexley & Sidcup, Bexleyheath & Crayford, Erith & Thamesmead, Orpington and Beckenham will suffer a part-time representative in City Hall. Mr Neill will be unable to speak up for them in Ken Livingstone's London Assembly while performing his duties as Bromley & Chislehurst's MP. Local people will be let down by Bob Neill.

"Mr Neill will no doubt say that a by-election will be expensive, but he should have thought of that when he applied to become Bromley & Chislehurst's MP".
