Lib Dem concern over Queen Mary's A&E

May 11, 2007 12:09 PM

Queen Mary's SidcupLiberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride has said that Bromley Council must use its health scrutiny role to carefully monitor the situation at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.

After concern in the local press, Cllr McBride asked a question about the situation at the last Council meeting. He urged the Council to monitor the situation carefully and call Queen Mary's executives in for questioning by the Council's Health Scrutiny Committee if needed.

Cllr McBride's concern on the subject earlier last year prompted him to put down a Council motion expressing concern at any loss of services at the hospital caused by huge financial problems. Queen Mary's executives at the time said categorically that no services would be affected.

Commenting on the latest situation, Cllr McBride said, "This hospital serves a number of people in the Crays, Chislehurst and other areas of Bromley because it is the nearest A&E department. For the sake of our residents Bromley needs to monitor this situation carefully and must not get fobbed off by assurances from health service executives."
