Chris Gaster

Chris Gaster, Councillor for Crystal Palace an previously for Anerley, died on Wednesday luchtime after a long struggle with cancer. Chris had served continuously as a councillor since 1971. Originally elected as a Labour councillor, he became an SDP councillor at its founding (it is believed he was the last remaining founding SDP councillor still in office).
Chris graduated from Oxford in 1965 and was a retired Housing Manager. He served as a governor of Kelsey Park Boys and Anerley Primary Schools. He was a board member of Broomleigh and Penge Churches Housing Associations and had been chair of Bromley Racial Equality Council and vice Chair of Bromley Refugee Network. Manager of The Haven Children's Home.
