Anuja Prashar: "Local commuters have faced fare increase after fare increase, while services have failed to improve"
Southeastern passengers are facing rail fare hikes in January of up to 13%. For commuters from Shortlands Station this could mean an Annual Season Ticket to London increasing from £1128 to £1275.
Speaking last week at a meeting of Shortlands residents, local campaigner Anuja Prashar said; "The increase is particularly galling for the hundreds of local commuters who already don't get a seat and are forced to stand for the duration of their journey.
"Year after year local commuters have faced fare increase after fare increase, while services have failed to improve.
"If we are really serious about getting our economy back on its feet, it makes little sense to put obstacles in people's way when they are trying to earn a living."
