FOI request over school funding decision

4.55.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 27th Aug 2009

Bromley's Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride has put in a Freedom of Information request for all documents relating to the decision to not spend Dedicated School Grant money to fund places at private schools.

The decision by Bromley Council Conservatives showed an "about turn" by them in the space of a few hours after considering the scheme for several weeks.

"What I want to find out is how seriously this scheme was being considered and what, if any, part did Conservative Central Office or David Cameron's office play in this decision," said Cllr David McBride. "It seems bizarre that after weeks of decision making, the plan was ruled out in a matter of hours after it hit the national press. I want to know who really makes the decisions in Bromley," the Liberal Democrat Leader added.
