EducationOur children deserve the best start in life.

But unfortunately, because of Conservative cuts, schools up and down the country are taking drastic measures.Staff cuts are common and more than half of school buildings are in urgent need of repair. Many are considering going down to a four-day week.

Bromley alone will face devastating cuts of £24.5 million by 2019 - equivalent to £528 per pupil. For example Harris Academy Beckenham will face an overall budget reduction of £738,034 by 2018, which is £792 per pupil or a reduction of 19 Teachers. But all Bromley schools are set to lose out under the Government plans. Our Sixth formers have been particularly hard hit with an overall national spending on further education set to have fallen by over 13% from 2010 by 2019 putting current funding for 16- to 18-year-olds at the same level as it was almost 30 years ago.

This is a disgrace - and our children deserve better.

And we can do better - That's why the Liberal Democrats have unveiled a plan to transform our education system, by investing £7bn more in our schools and colleges over the next Parliament to:

1. Protect per pupil funding in real terms in schools (£3.3bn)

2. Protect further education per pupil funding in real terms (£660m)

3. Ensure no school loses out from the National Funding Formula (£1.26bn)

4. Protect the pupil premium in real terms (£415m)

5. Invest in continuous professional development for teachers (£165m)

Bromley Liberal Democrats are leading the fight locally to oppose these cuts. Please sign our petition to show your support.
