Bromley Liberal Democrats urge action on parking and potholes
The Liberal Democrat group have formally requested statements from the Bromley Council portfolio holder regarding changes to parking meter payment options and Pothole Repairs at the full Council meeting on Monday 24th April.
On the removal of parking meters, the Lib Dems have sought assurances that these changes will not discriminate against vulnerable groups and that all residents will have access to convenient and affordable parking facilities. We have urged the Council to provide alternative payment options for those who don't have access to technology.
We have also called for the Council to report on the current number of pothole repairs needed throughout the borough, classified by ward. Potholes pose a significant risk to road users as they make split-second decisions on whether to drive over potholes, risking damage to their vehicle, or swerve to avoid them and risk an accident.
The Lib Dems want greater accountability from the Council and a comprehensive action plan to address these urgent issues. Nationally a “pothole postcode lottery” has emerged. In some areas, people have waited up to 18 months for their potholes to be repaired. The “Potholes Fund” announced in last month’s budget does not even cover half of the £500 million stripped from local authorities’ highways maintenance budgets. We want these funding cuts fully reversed.
We are dedicated to promoting equal access to essential services for everyone, and we urge the Council to take prompt action to ensure that every resident has access to parking services and safe roads.
