Damp and Mould in Bromley Housing
Across the borough, Bromley's Lib Dems have been talking to residents whose homes are suffering from damp and mould.
These problems feature heavily in the casework of our Lib Dem Councillors on Bromley Council - since they were elected in May 2022 a large part of their casework has involved supporting residents who are living in homes with unimaginable mould and damp. The Councillors have experienced major obstacles to getting landlords to take swift action to protect tenants particularly those with children and vulnerable adults - there is a real lack of practical and proactive support.
In response to this evidence the Lib Dem group has filed a motion for consideration by the Council meeting on 24th April calling on the Council to take action. Specifically the group is asking for Bromley Council to improve its accountability, response times and support for tenants. They want to see a log of damp and mould casework and closer scrutiny of housing associations and their action plans on how to resolve damp and mould problems. You can read the full motion here.
"We must also improve support for tenants by creating an information sheet or signposting for tenants and landlords with the information on the best approaches to preventing and tackling damp and mould and where to seek help. Each housing association should provide a similar factsheet for their tenants, with detailed guidance on what to do if damp or mould is found and what service standard the tenant can expect," said Lib Dem Councillor Will Connolly. "We must act with urgency to tackle this growing issue and ensure that our residents have access to safe, healthy homes,"
