It's Time to Fix the Potholes: Lib Dems Pledge £300m fund
It's clear for everyone to see that our roads are crumbling. It seems like there's a pothole on almost every street and no doubt you have your own ones nearby that you have to be swerve to avoid as you drive along. The Conservatives have let our roads fall into disrepair - overseeing cuts, delays and decline. Motorists are paying the price of Conservative failure.
The Liberal Democrats want to change that and do something to fix our broken roads. It shouldn't be that hard to fix a pothole. In Bromley, it's been a particularly bad problem, one that the Conservative Council has fundamentally failed to deal with. Many residents have raised it with us as a constant source of frustration. There's a pothole that's been reported that has not been fixed for 400 days! Many residents are angry with the council's failure and sick of their inability to act and get them fixed. It's time for change.
The Liberal Democrats believe we can fix our broken roads. We promise to give more of the road budget to local councils, letting them control the spending to fix potholes. Local councils should know where the problems are - and locally in Bromley you can use FixMyStreet to report them. With this extra funding we would give local councils the funds to fast track fixing them. Council budgets are under enormous pressure because of Conservative cuts and these funds are desperately needed if we are going to start sorting the problem. We have promised an additional £300m investment over the next parliament to focus on fixing the country’s crumbling roads which could equate to 1.2 million potholes being fixed each year.
So if you want to finally fix our roads, on 4th July vote for your local Liberal Democrat candidate - Julie Ireland for Bromley and Biggin Hill, Chloe-Jane Ross for Beckenham and Penge, Graeme Casey for Orpington or Ulysse Abbate in Eltham and Chislehurst. A vote for the Lib Dems is a vote to finally get something done about crumbling roads and potholes.
