Lib Dems celebrate a victorious night!

Most Lib Dem MPs ever

With one seat still to declare, the Liberal Democrats are celebrating winning 71 seats in the General Election, a record breaking result and the highest number we’ve ever achieved.

Our light-hearted, but targeted and policy-focussed campaign across areas of England, Wales and Scotland has returned a record number of Lib Dem MPs.  Issues of sewage dumping, the NHS and social care, have cut-through to local communities. In London we have increased our MPs from 3 to 6 and we welcome new MPs in Carshalton and Wallington, Sutton & Cheam and Wimbledon, to join our MPs in Kingston and Surbiton, Richmond Park and Twickenham.

In the Bromley borough, Labour's Liam Conlon won the new seat of Beckenham and Penge, and the Conservatives held the two seats of Bromley & Biggin Hill (Peter Fortune) and Orpington (Gareth Bacon).

Lib Dem Councillor Chloe-Jane Ross, who was a candidate in the Beckenham & Penge constituency, commented “Thank you to everyone who voted Liberal Democrat. While it’s disappointing that our vote went down, we know that many of our supporters lent their support to Labour for this election in exactly the same way that Labour supporters and others lent their vote to the Lib Dems in our target seats so we understand why.”

We now look forward to seeing what our 70+ MPs achieve in Parliament over the coming months, we know they will be local champions who will fight for a fair deal for you and your community. Locally Bromley Lib Dems will work with the new MPs to help them be a voice for our community and work together to improve the lives of Bromley residents.
